Happy Mid-Week, All!
Today, I want to turn the camera lens away from yours truly and feature a short story that I received in the body of an email recently, describing the author’s unpleasant surprise. I promised I’d keep her name anonymous, but here’s my thing: I think this is funny! This chicka cracks me up! Leave me your thoughts about her little story, and help me convince her to start writing more or maybe her own blog? Oh, and because I know her and you probably don’t, I should tell you that she has a strong, almost vehement, dislike for shrimp. Read on…

Tom No-So Yum
I am highly offended by my Tom Yum soup. It is normally delicious (I have had it at several Thai restaurants), but I made an unpleasant and alarming discovery tonight. This particular container of Tom Yum soup had been fouled by two enormous, pink, juicy shrimp for whom rigor mortis set in about 12 hours ago. I made this unholy discovery while innocently stirring what I thought was my delicious soup, while preparing to eat the half I had been saving. One rose to the surface on top of my spoon like a very pale and headless Loch Ness monster coming up for air from a deep mountain lake. I nearly flung the whole thing across the room when I saw it, but restrained myself just in time.
I contemplated throwing away the rest of the soup, but couldn’t bring myself to part with it. I also couldn’t bring myself to eat the soup with such a monstrosity lurking in its depths. After turning out most of the lights, so as to reduce the monster to an unidentifiable shape, I once again dredged the soup container, at once bringing up the offending carcass. Trying not to look at it, I transported it to the trash and dropped it in, where it landed on top of a cereal box with a wet thud. Repressing a shiver of revolt, I returned to my soup and dug in, looking forward to the Nessie-free goodness. The second I raised my spoon, I saw that it was not to be. Apparently there had been not one, but two monsters lurking in the deep! Newly revolted, I repeated the excavation process, this time taking care to drop the headless creature on a pile of coffee grounds, in order to mask the sound of impact.
At last victorious, I returned once again to my soup, this time stirring with joyful abandon. The first spoonful, and the next, were as delicious as I had remembered, but then, after several more, I realized my soup would never be the same again. Despite having removed the invaders, they had left their indelible mark, forever turning my Tom Yum soup into Tom Scum.

Thanks for stopping by, everyone! And thanks for taking the time for leaving comment if you can. This story reminds me of finding a roach in a piece of pizza once (Yowza! Blegh!!). Has this type of occurrence ever happened to you?
Create a Great Day!

LOL! This is really funny! “Tom Scum”…I love it!
Hi Jay!
Hey, superstar, thanks for stopping by this morning.
Also, thanks for the feedback. I’ll just call this chick Randi for discussion: as I said, I think she is a really funny writer, but, then again, I know her and can imagine her making really funny gestures and intonations while I am reading.
Yeah, Tom Scum, indeed, she’s quite a character!
Enjoy your day today, Jay, and I’ll be sure to pass your comment to her. Rock on, rock warrior…
HILARIOUS!!! I think Randi needs to write a book with all her funny stories in it, no one can quite describe things the way she can
Hi Tessa!
Yeah, right! I hear you and agree. Thanks for commenting here, Tessa.
You rock!
And yes, we can now officially start bugging Randi to get going on this new project. Right, Ran??
As a fellow non-lover of shrimp (or as we call them Down Under, prawns), I concur…vehemently!
Hey Sami!
Right on! Shrimp, er, rather, prawns, always seemed to me to merely be “bugs.” I don’t particularly like them, either.
Have a sunny, funny day!
Thanks for stopping by!
What an awesome story… I laughed the entire time! If your friend isn’t a writer, she has missed her calling! Thanks for sharing this and bringing a perma-smile to my face!

Hey Lisis!
Welcome back!
Sorry I’m late to reply – it has been an interesting day to say the least.
To the point…thanks for coming back to JBN! Thanks, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting my pal. Now she has validation, and no more excuses!
