What’s She Saying?

Fill in the speech balloon and win a custom web/blog button!

I’ve been creating my own science-related graphics since college and grad school, but have also branched out into other areas of graphic design.

(See examples of headers I’ve created for fellow blogger buddies, Jay, Tim, and Lance. I also designed and created my site layout, header, and buttons.)

Lately, I’ve been spending time honing my illustration skills.

For this chillax Friday, I thought I’d pose a little brain stimulation to you. In the illustration/cartoon in this post, which I completed in a dabbling/practice session, what is the woman saying?

Fill in the speech balloon!

Play along by adding your idea to the comment section below, or contact me directly.

On Sunday, April 18th (10 AM PST), I’ll have my husband pick his favorite (hint, hint: he likes humor just as much as me, but humor is not required). If you’re selected, I’ll work with you to create a custom button for your site. If you’re not a blogger or don’t have your own website, don’t let that stop you—I’ll make a custom image you can use to print on a greeting card, for example.

P.S. Thanks to Doug for posting a tutorial about the pen tool in Adobe® Illustrator. I’ve been curious how that bugger works for years—but hadn’t taken the time to understand until now. Woot!

I presume the gal in the pic is in the bath all ready to take a shower with her shower cap on, when she notices a guy from another window staring at her and she says “Dude, cant a girl shower without you staring her down? Close your eyes before i shoot you with my botanical shampoo!” hehehe…

      Hi Zeenat,

Thanks for your lovely support and all the sweet-sweet things you said in your comment. I agree, I enjoy very much when bloggers pose puzzles or request post contributions — I’ll take *anything* that gets my noggin going! :)

GREAT balloon filler, Zeenat! To keep this fair, I’m having my funny, sweet, lovely husband decide who gets the free graphic. But, I’ll put in a good word for you! :P

      Stop back by this post Sunday morning to see who he picked. Thanks for buttering me up, by the way, I’ll take it any day (and twice on Saturday). {laughing}

Have a superb weekend, Zany Zeenat!

      Hi Tess,

      GOOD ONE! {laughing!}

I knew this would be funny to see what people would think of regarding what my little comic lady is doing. Sunday morning, I’ll add a comment about what I thought this lady might be saying, too.

      Have a great weekend, Tess!

      Hey Justin,

Thanks for adding your two cents (er, uh, make that thirteen words).

I’m a HUGE FAN of the Simpsons. I totally laughed at this one. And, you gave me a great idea for a Halloween costume this year, too! Thanks, Justin.

      Hi George,

I was hoping to see you here. And, as usual, your brilliant comments do not disappoint. HEE HAW!

I’m starting to feel sorry for Scott (the husband) for having to choose from all these awesome responses.

      Thanks for chipping in, George!

    Hi Lori
Know what you mean about the pen tool… especially trying to draw curves – nightmare!

    What is your lady saying?
She’s not saying anything, the balloon is empty, because she’s thinking.

      Hi Keith,

Agreed — curves with the pen tool are like trying to make a circle with toothpicks!

It’s funny you mention the woman is thinking — I went back and forth about making a speech balloon vs. a thought balloon (i.e., a cloud vs. a square). But, I went for the speech version this time.

      Thanks for popping by!

      Hi Tim,

Thanks for saying you like the idea — I assume everyone can use a little more creative exercise in their days. :)

{laughing} I hadn’t thought of the the blue thing on her head as being curtains/fabric. It’s been amazing to see what everyone things that blue “thing” is in their eyes.

Thanks, Tim! I hope you’re enjoying your weekend.

      Hi Joy,
Great seeing you here. I hope the waters in the dock are smooth and all is well.

That was cool — I hadn’t thought about the aspect of her looking into a mirror and giving herself a pep talk. Great take on this, Joy!

      Enjoy your weekend, lovely.

LOL Lori, LOL!…I have to admit, I use the mirror for pep talks, visioning, lip synching, pretty much anything you can think of for mirrors…then I walk away and think oh man do I have broccoli in my teeth, is my hair sticking up and I have to go back and look…because I rarely use a mirror to notice my reflection. I use the people in my life for that:)
