Savor

In a funk as the morning fog lingered into early afternoon, I sat wondering about life. The fog can seem a closet that won’t open. Claustrophobia. Haunting.

Then…

I feel a shift.

This fog, my supposed nemesis, is merely sky reaching down to me. She’s nature giving me an ethereal kiss on the cheek.

Again, a lesson I need to play on repeat—it’s all in how we frame our thoughts. Our experiences are merely illusions interpreted by our senses, translated by our mental apparatus. That pesky brain of ours. (Oh, behave, you wild and wooly brain.)

I sink into meditation once again, find the stillness, and savor the sky.

Thank you for sharing this Haiga* with me. Continue not only to look, but to see—you can choose the lens through which you see your life experiences.

I dedicate this Haiga to the people of Japan. My love hugs your shores and courageous souls. Read this beautiful post for thoughts regarding what you can do for Japan during this tragic time.

Oh, and wrap your arms around yourself and give you a hug from me, too.

*The combo of art and short form poetry is called “Haiga.”

    Hi Lori,

“Fog touching my lips, I savor the sky” -It is so simple and beautiful!

I always though of fog as a cloud that decided to see up close the human world, like an angel coming down to Earth, and that cloud would bring freshness to those willing to receive it. (I know, people who had a car accident in the fog will disagree with me…but that’s another story).

Thanks for your lovely comment. Really, thank you.

I really like the visual there, the cloud that wants to see clearer the human world. That’s beautiful. I like it!

Enjoy your weekend, Raul, and thanks so much for stopping by.

Lori — You always have such a unique way of seeing things. Your ability to transform a moment of frustration over the fog into a beautiful gift is a perfect example.

I also love the art work that goes with this post. I love how the ribbon drops down. Lovely:~)

When you feel up to, stop by my site. I have a fiction story up that I would love you to read. I managed to get this one into the 600 word limit. You, of all people, should know how much of challenge that is for me:~) It’s called “The Dance.”

      Hi Sara Songbird,
Thank you for your kind, generous comment. Awww, **blushing**. ;)

Thanks also, for mentioning my design/artwork. That really means a lot to me. For me, if my work can reach out to someone else and connect to that person, I’m in heaven. Thank you.

I will stop by, definitely. On my way…!

How simply beautiful. What a perfect example of how just changing our thoughts about something totally changes it. In this way we create our own reality. May the sky always kiss you and sometimes the sunshine too!

Haha, you’re funny. Of course you think of things like this, you have a very active, intelligent, creative mind. I know this to be true, so you can’t argue with me. lol ;) I learn from you, too, Hilary. We’re all on this journey together.

Keep sending that love to Japan, Hilary. I truly believe that even a thought or a moment of silence can help in these troubled times.

    Hi Lori:

Once again, another great poem. Personally, I love the fog…no not when I’m on a plane trying to land or take off. But fog is mysterious and I love the atmosphere it creates. I don’t like the metaphoric fog, which sometimes gets into my head and prevents me from making good decisions. In any case, thank you again for this post as I sip my coffee on Sat. morning. Have a great weekend!

      March 19, 2011 | 10:56 am

      Hi Tim,

I’m glad you can appreciate the fog, I know what you mean here. Oh, and the part about the metaphoric mental fog — don’t even get me started. ;)

From where I sit, I think you’re decisions are precise, well thought out, and filled with a loving heart. Keep up the amazing work, Tim. Oh, and thanks for sharing a cuppa joe with me this morning.

Enjoy the weekend and I hope that snow your way is melting.

Hi Lori—-late again! But I love that beautiful poem. You are really saying a lot with very few words and that is the most power a poem can have (at least that is what I think). It appears that you are writing several poems a week and that will certainly hone your skills. I really enjoy the pictures that go so well with the written word, also. Keep ‘em coming! I want to do some Spring haiku—-will share them with you when I get them written,

      Hi Jean,
No worries, you’re never late to any party I host. haha ;) It’s always great to see you.

Thanks for your kind words, coming from you that means so much, Haiku Angel. I agree that the more I write, the easier it becomes and I think my poetry is improving (I’m hoping, anyhoo, lol).

Have a great weekend and a happy Vernal Equinox to you, Jean.

“it’s all in how we frame our thoughts” – that says it all. Now the is question how to do that on a consistent basis. It’s a challenge I face every morning but have learned what I need to do in the morning (journaling, reading, writing and of course a good cup of coffee)to do the proper paradigm shifting. Wish you the best.

      Hi Riley,
Thank you very much for stopping by to share your thoughts. You’ve nailed it, reframing our thoughts is a constant work in progress, but a worthy goal. It sounds like you have a nice practice going and I support you 100% in your pursuit. You’re already ahead of the game knowing that it’s a challenge that needs practice and not just something that happens “overnight.”
      Namaste and much love,
